The 2024 Chevrolet Suburban is the latest version of a legendary nameplate that’s been in continuous production longer than any other. Few vehicles come close to the Suburban if you need to effortlessly transport up to eight people and plenty of cargo around Stanleytown, Danville, Rocky Mount, and Greensboro. The latest Suburban is unashamedly big, bold, immensely capable, and uncompromising, precisely what shoppers expect and want from a vehicle in this class.
These days, the 2024 Chevrolet Suburban is a long way from being a take-it or leave-it proposition. This truck-based large SUV may not offer quite as many configurations as the pickup it shares a platform with, but there are plenty of ways to tailor it to your specific requirements and budget.
Six trim levels are available in the 2024 Suburban lineup. The range starts with the entry-level LS and then goes to the LT, RST, Z71, Premier, and range-topping High Country. Apart from the Z71, which is exclusively four-wheel drive, all trim levels are standard rear-wheel drive with four-wheel drive available.
If a vehicle is going to transport up to eight people and lots of cargo around, it’s going to need something substantial under the hood. The 2024 Chevrolet Suburban doesn’t feature an appropriately powerful engine because there are three for shoppers to choose between that all send their power to the rear or all four wheels through a ten-speed automatic transmission.
The base engine for all models other than the top-of-the-line High Country is a 5.3-liter V-8 that develops 355 horsepower and 383 lb.-ft. of torque. Most people will be more than happy with this tried and tested powerplant, but there are two more options to consider. The headline-grabber is a 6.2-liter gas V-8, which then provides the Suburban with 420 horsepower and 460 lb.-ft. of torque. The 6.2 is available for RST, Z71, Premier, and High Country trim levels, but every model other than the Z71 can also have a 3.0-liter inline-six turbodiesel with 277 horsepower and 460 lb.-ft. of torque to offer.
Although it isn’t a genuine luxury SUV in the strictest terms, you wouldn’t know if you took a ride in one of the highest 2024 Suburban trim levels. Retail shoppers will likely overlook the base model to get a better infotainment system with a larger 10.2-inch screen and other goodies like a Bose sound system and 12-inch digital Driver Information Center.
However, the High Country goes above and beyond with a standard 15-inch color head-up display, Magnetic Ride Control suspension, perforated leather upholstery, heated and ventilated front seats, a power-programmable hands-free liftgate, and plenty more.
The 2024 Chevrolet Suburban is a fabulously imposing and spacious full-size SUV that can tow more than 8,000 pounds and even gets you up to 28 mpg on the highway with the turbodiesel engine option.
