If you’re familiar with the Trailblazer name you might have to do a double-take when it comes to the 2022 Chevrolet Trailblazer. This is a stunning-looking subcompact crossover SUV that will turn heads wherever it’s driven or parked, but it shouldn’t be confused with another Trailblazer sold in South America and Australia. This 2022 Chevy crossover is about as contemporary as vehicle design gets right now, and its beauty is not just skin-deep either as the interior is spacious and stylish, standard equipment levels are impressive, and it even boasts more-than-decent safety ratings.
For such a city-friendly subcompact crossover SUV, the 2022 Chevrolet Trailblazer model lineup is actually fairly extensive. Not only are there four different and distinct trim levels for buyers to choose from, each one of them is available in standard front-drive format or with the option of upgrading to the extra capability of all-wheel-drive. Some automakers would market this as eight different versions, but it’s still an impressive amount of choice whichever way you choose to look at it. The entry-level version of the Trailblazer is the LS, and from there the range goes to the LT, ACTIV, and finally to the top-of-the-range RS.
There are two different engines and two different transmissions available for the 2022 Chevy Trailblazer. The first engine is a 1.2-liter turbo-three that develops 137 horsepower and 162 lb.-ft. of torque. The other is another turbo-three, but this time it’s a 1.3-liter unit which then provides the little Chevy crossover with 155 horsepower and 174 lb.-ft. of torque. The smaller engine is standard with front-drive versions of the LS and LT trim levels, but if you choose to go with AWD or if you opt for the ACTIV or RS trim levels with either drivetrain, then you’ll be getting the more powerful 1.3-liter engine. Front-drive versions of the Trailblazer come with a CVT transmission while AWD variants come with a standard nine-speed automatic instead.
All versions of the Chevy Trailblazer come with a very decent level of standard features and equipment, but buyers should pay close attention to the different trim levels as it’s not an entirely linear scale where every higher trim builds directly upon the one below it. The entry-level LS comes with 17-inch alloy wheels, 10 airbags, a six-speaker audio system, power features, a rear vision camera, climate control, and a 7.0-inch touchscreen infotainment system with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto compatibility.
The RS trim level takes the Trailblazer in a very sporty direction with some very smart 18-inch alloy wheels, deep-tinted glass, and the black Chevy logos, but it’s also very nicely equipped with the likes of standard 10-way power driver’s seat, active noise cancellation, heated front seats, and a heated steering wheel. However, there are also plenty of ways to take the Trailblazer to even higher levels with options such as adaptive cruise control and a premium Bose seven-speaker audio system, and more.
The 2022 Chevrolet Trailblazer is the perfect subcompact crossover SUV for the town and city, but it still offers levels of extra capability that some rivals don’t offer buyers anymore. It’s just the right size for the urban jungle, but it’s also available with AWD and all the advanced safety features you’d want for regular longer journeys too.
