Cadillac appreciates that not everyone wants to own and drive an SUV these days and that’s why it produces the simply stunning CT4. The 2021 Cadillac CT4 competes against some very serious and very established rivals in its segment but none of them can compete against the CT4 when it comes to turning heads.
There’s a lot to recommend about the CT4 apart from the way it looks, however, such as its excellent turbocharged engines, impressive technology and surprisingly reasonable pricing.
Some big-name German automakers have had a vice-like grip on the luxury compact sedan segment for a long as most people can remember, but with the CT4 America certainly has a home-grown contender that can finally give the usual suspects a serious run for their money.
The exterior styling of the 2021 Cadillac CT4 speaks for itself and it looks fantastic in every version, and there are four trim levels for buyers to choose from this year. The entry-level model is the CT4 Luxury and then the lineup goes to the Premium Luxury, Sport and finally to the range-topping V-Series.
It depends on your point of view as to whether there are two or three engine options in the 2021 CT4 lineup. There are two turbocharged units in the current CT4 family, but the larger of the two is available in a standard form and a tuned form that’s even more powerful.
The base engine is a 2.0-liter turbo-four that develops a very respectable 237 horsepower and 258 lb.-ft. of torque and that power can go to the rear or all four wheels through an eight-speed automatic transmission.
The alternative is a 2.7-liter turbo-four which then puts 310 horsepower and 350 lb.-ft. of torque at the Caddy’s disposal, and this one comes mated to an excellent 10-speed automatic transmission. If you want the most power the CT4 has available then the V-Series sees that 2.7-liter turbo-four tuned to put out an even more impressive 325 horsepower and 380 lb.-ft. of torque.
Starting MSRPs for the 2021 CT4 are more affordable than its main German rivals, but it’s to Cadillac’s immense credit that it has cut corners or short-changed buyers on standard equipment to achieve the attractive pricing.
The CT4 is even one of those rare models these days where the base trim is easy to recommend because it’s not a stripped-down model aimed at large fleet buyers. Standard equipment includes premium leatherette upholstery, full LED interior and exterior lighting, 17-inch alloy wheels, HD rear vision camera, and an 8.0-inch touchscreen infotainment system with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto compatibility.
If you want the more powerful 2.7-liter turbo-four engine you’ll need to step up a level to Premium Luxury, but this model also gets you things like larger 18-inch alloy wheels and real leather seats with driver memory settings. The 2.7-liter engine is an option at this level and not standard.
Sport models live up to their billing with the likes of performance run-flat low-profile tires, dark exterior accents, alloy driver pedals and performance grilles, fascias, rockers, tail lamps and spoiler. The V-Series comes standard with the tuned version of the 2.7-liter turbo-four engine mated to the 10-speed automatic transmission, but it also gets other genuine performance upgrades such as a performance suspension with Magnetic Ride Control and a limited-slip rear differential.
The 2021 Cadillac CT4 really is the complete package. It all starts with unique, modern and aggressive exterior styling which is then backed up with engines and performance that more than live up to the promises made by the car’s looks. Then you have the kind of comfort and luxury Cadillac is renowned for that’s further enhanced by a large helping of the very latest tech.
